Working hard to make the town a better place

When living in a small community it is very important to stay involved and be active in the town and school. You will often see one or two people who are very involved in the community and in the lives of others, working hard to make the town a better place. Let’s focus on teachers of the community, they do so much more than you would think! Teachers from everywhere obviously impact the lives of children whether it is just a small after school meeting, to everyday after school activities. They are a very important aspect of the community and do so much more than we realize.
Isaac Kvasager is a teacher at the Grygla Public School teaching high school science with ages varying from seventh grade to twelfth grade. Isaac has been teaching at the Grygla School since the fall of 2009 marking this upcoming fall his seventh year teaching. “It never feels like work, I have fun teaching,” he said in an interview last Wednesday morning. Isaac started on his path to teaching at NCTC for his first two years of schooling and proceeded to UND in Grand Forks for one year and then graduated at BSU with his Bachelor of Science.
Not only does he teach, but he is also the junior high girls basketball coach, peer helper advisor, riverwatch advisor, envirothon advisor and the robotics coach. Since he has started the envirothon program, he has had a team participate in the state competition every year. He is the founder of the Iron Chargers robotics team, and since their start in 2012, they have gone to the worlds competition three years in a row. He is a peer helper advisor along with Brian Loe, who is also the social studies teacher and basketball coach at Grygla School. Isaac started to coach junior high girls basketball in 2012 with Greg Monson, who is also the second grade teacher at Grygla School.
Originally from Oklee, Isaac moved to Grygla in early 2015 to be closer to the school and eliminate the driving back and forth every day. He is married to Danielle (Olson) Kvasager and also the father of two young boys, Sam and Simon. He says, “It’s always important to make time for family no matter how busy I am.” He also states that he is very lucky to have a wife that doesn’t divorce him for how often he is gone with school activities!
Isaac’s future plans are to continue teaching since it is something he really enjoys to do. He plans on staying in Grygla where he will continue to teach at the school. “I don’t plan on leaving Grygla anytime soon, or at all, but it is impossible to predict the future,” he says.
