Motel 89 gives tours at grand opening

Since purchasing the business on July 1st, 2015, Shawn and Stacie Meyer have made many updates and improvements to Motel 89. Community members were treated to tours, refreshments, door prizes and conversation at the motel’s grand opening Sunday afternoon.
From 10am-2pm, a steady stream of area residents came through the motel doors. Upon entering, guests were able to view the newly remodeled common room, which is open to motel guests daily from 8am-10pm. The common room holds a living area with TV, kitchen with vending machines, coffee, microwave and a bathroom facility. The newly remodeled laundry area is off the common room, but it isn’t available for guest use, however, Stacie says she will do guest laundry for $5/load.
Over the course of the year, a lot of smaller updates, like painting, have taken place. It wasn’t until February of 2016 that the major construction started at the motel. The old Marshall County Soil & Water Conservation office space was being used as a bunk room full of cots. It has now been renovated into a 4-bedroom apartment complete with a full kitchen and living space.
Motel 89 has five single rooms available, all of which have been improved and updated with new TV’s. One double room is available, along with the apartment. Single rooms run $50/night; the double room is $65/night; the apartment is $45/person/night. Each room has a microwave, fridge, coffee and updated TV available.
“In the next year, I hope to just relax a little now and just enjoy the guests coming in,” says owner, Stacie Meyer. To which her husband replied, “I hope that happens, but I doubt she’s going to relax!” The Meyers see new shingles in the motel’s future, along with continuing to update each of the rooms, one by one, and installing new bathroom floors. Starting in August, continental breakfast will also be served in the common room.
