Meet the new Grygla Eagle intern, Trystan Jelle. Trystan will be starting her internship with the Grygla Eagle on Monday, June 8th, and will be on the job until mid-August. She will be a part of the 2015 Pohlad Internship Program. This year marks the 11th year the Pohlad Family Foundation has generously funded summer internships for high school-aged students as part of its Summer Youth Employment Program. Last year, 65 students were placed as interns at newspapers around the state of Minnesota.
As the Eagle intern, Trystan will be working part-time at 20 hours a week for 10 consecutive weeks. Her duties will include office hours, attending/covering community happenings, conducting interviews for news stories, writing various human interest stories and finding fun, fresh and interesting tidbits to include in each weekly paper. The Eagle will not only gain the valuable help, but it will also gain a youth voice, as Trystan will be contributing a personal column to be featured each week.
Currently a freshman at Grygla High School, Trystan is involved in various extracurricular activities, including volleyball, basketball, track and the robotics team. She loves to read books and also enjoys writing. She is very interested in bettering her writing skills through her experience with the paper. Trystan said she is looking forward to being a part of the community more, by attending and covering various events around town, stating, “I wanted to get a job this summer and I thought working for the paper sounded really fun! I’m most excited to be getting involved in the community a little more and to learn some more communication skills.”
The Summer Youth Employment Program is a truly unique and special experience for high school-aged students. Before ever stepping into a college classroom, interns get to experience what life is like when you work in an office. They hone communication skills and they get a taste for what a career in the communication or journalism field may look like.
Trystan is the daughter of Mike and Shonda Jelle. You will soon see her out and about around town representing the newspaper. Make sure you stop and say hello; you can also make mention of any stories you’d like her to feature. She is very enthusiastic about her upcoming job and she’s looking forward to getting a good feel for the newspaper business. She will be working in the Grygla Eagle office every Wednesday from 10am-4pm, starting the week of June 8th.
The Eagle office phone number is 218-294-6220 and the email address is grygla.eagle@gmail.com.
