A severe storm that tore through Winger on Sunday night did extensive damage to several buildings, including Calvary Lutheran Church. The National Weather Service has not confirmed tornadic activity, though the damage seems to resemble that of a tornado.

Kiecker Farms, established in 1916 near McIntosh, was recognized as a Century Farm during a program July 14 at the Polk County Fair.
