Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA Chapter Hosts FFA Week Activities
629,367 members and 7,757 chapters. The National FFA Organization is celebrated, recognized, and promoted every year during National FFA Week in February. This student organization is proud to shape motivated leaders with work ethic, professionalism, and service learning. The FFA motto of "Learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve", explains it all in a nutshell. This is the core to what is undoubtedly one of the greatest and most accomplished student organizations in this nation.
Clearbrook-Gonvick FFA Chapter took part in celebrating the National FFA Organization during FFA Week. The goal of our chapter that week is to educate C-G students about FFA and about agriculture in general. We started the week off with Ag Trivia which challenged high school students and staff to identify different grains, tree leaves, dog breeds, and cattle breeds. Anyone who identified all five in any given day had their name put into a drawing for a free ice cream cake. In the end, Anthony Peldo won the drawing for the cake!
On Wednesday and Thursday of FFA week our chapter hosted assemblies for the elementary classes. The fourth, fifth, and sixth grades participated in a trivia game about pigs called "Truth or Hogwash", and then they took part in Ag Olympics where they were required to rope a steer, milk a cow, roll tires, and do other agriculture activities. Kindergarten through third grade had their own Ag Olympics, also. They were able to dress like a farmer, rope a steer, herd pigs, shovel corn, milk a cow, and make pizzas. The elementary and the FFA members enjoy the high-energy assemblies and have much fun with every day agriculture tasks.
The C-G FFA chapter hosted a door decorating contest for the high school students on Friday of FFA week. This has become a tradition for the high school and is getting to be a fun competition between classes. A theme is picked and provided to each 7th hour class at the beginning of the hour. The FFA fills the hallway with a multitude of materials and each class is allowed to use only those that are provided. This year the theme was "Back Where I Come From". Mr. Jones’ class earned 3rd place, Mrs. Hjort’s earned 2nd place, and Mr. Lavin’s class pulled away with the winner and won a free pizza party!
A coloring contest also filled FFA week with excitement! Elementary students were given a chance to color a farm scene and win a free ice cream cone form AJ’s. FFA members judged each piece of artwork very carefully and the winners were chosen. Kindergarten: Avery Haugan; 1st Grade: Lucas Bakken; 2nd Grade: Sarah Imle; 3rd Grade: Samantha Tollefson; 4th Grade: Sydney Risland; 5th Grade: Madison Gerlofs; and 6th Grade: Jensen Engberg. They did a great job!

Altogether it was a great week to celebrate FFA and agriculture. Kids today don’t necessarily get exposure to agriculture first hand. The C-G FFA has made it their goal to show kids in our school and communities what agriculture means and what it provides. We appreciate the support of all students, faculty, staff, administration, and community members as we work to reach that goal.
