There will be music

Gully will come alive with the sound of music on July 18th. A good reason to come to Gully is to hear three different musical groups performing that day. Gully folks cannot celebrate without music!

The first group to perform is a trio that many of us have heard and enjoyed for a number of years: Robin Norgaard Kelleher, Carole Tharaldson and Tanya Tharaldson. Robin and Carole have been singing together since they were teenagers. Tanya joined the group about four years ago. The trio sings classic country and country gospel songs accompanied by guitars. They will be performing at the Gully Community Center from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

The Big Bass Ramblers from Bemidji will get our "toes tapping" from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at the Community Center. The music of Big Bass Ramblers ranges from blues to bluegrass, country to rock and roll, folk to classic rock and gospel. The group consists of Jay Forney on guitar and vocal; Vickie Ambuehl, vocals; Fred Ambuehl on bass; and Dennis Doeden on string banjo and vocals. You may find yourself singing along or dancing.

The later evening music is Scarlet County, a Twin Cities based band. Gully is able to get this group because of some "local pull". Scarlet County will be playing at Shorty’s from 9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. Plan to hear a variety of country rock music ranging from Johnny Cash to Miranda Lambert to REO Speed Wagon. The band consists of Alyssa (lead vocal), Mike (lead guitar), Matt (bass guitar) and Sean (drums).

Of special interest is the connection of each group to the Gully area. In the first group, Robin Norgaard went to Gully Grade School and Gonvick High School. Tanya and Carole have lived and worked in the Gully area for many years. Big Bass Ramblers includes Jay Forney, who is married to Mary Danielson who attended Gully Grade School and Gonvick High School and Fred Ambuehl, a Gonvick High School graduate. The lead vocalist in Scarlet County, Alyssa Scott, is the daughter of Sheila and Russell Emerson of Gully. No wonder these are such fine groups!
