Shirley Alice Nelson was born on June 11, 1936 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Axel and Anna (Nygaard) Nelson.  She was baptized at the Emil Anderson farm and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Silverton Church.  Shirley attended country school – Rosebank County Line, Steiner, and Washington.  In her teenage years, Shirley developed Rheumatic Fever.  She spent six weeks at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls and then recuperated at the heart hospital in the Twin Cities for nearly a year.

On November 19, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to Thorman P. Dahle in Thief River Falls.  To this union two children were born, Sherryl and Micheal.  They made their home in the Thief River Falls area and enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Pine Lake.  The couple also owned and operated the Rosewood Store.  Thorman passed away on November 4, 1985.

Shirley worked hard her entire life.  She was a receptionist for Dietaxi, waitressed at several restuarants, worked at Dow Key, Arctic Cat, Ben Franklin, Ace Hardware, Noreen Country Market, and Hartz Grocery.  She also enjoyed painting homes, selling Avon, Mary Kay, and her own handmade crafts.  Shirley was honored as top salesperson for both Avon and Mary Kay for the region.  If she wasn’t selling she was hosting parties so others could sell.  She also sold home interior designs, worked at Pamida, and retired from Digi-Key in 2010 after over 20 years of service.  Shirley also enjoyed volunteering at the Oklee Senior Center.

On December 20, 1996, Shirley was united in marriage to Russell T. Jasperson at Red Lake Falls, MN.  The couple made their home on the Jasperson farm near Plummer, MN where they have continued to reside for the past almost 19 wonderful years.  Shirley and Russell enjoyed listening to old-time music every Sunday, going out for supper, lutefisk suppers, traveled following the Cathy Erickson band as well as other old-time music bands, and always made time to visit with their friends.

Shirley loved people and her home was always a gathering place where everyone was welcome.  Family and friends would gather at the farm on Sundays to enjoy Shirley’s home cooking, famous caramel rolls, and other baked goods.  Shirley loved spending time with all of her family and especially enjoyed holding her great-grandkids and waltzing with Russell.  She also did embroidery, crocheting, quilting, sewing, and always took the time to visit with people, laugh and tell a joke.

Shirley lived to make others happy and always put others before herself.  She was all heart and always gave her whole heart into whatever she was doing.  Sherryl and Mike are extremely proud to call her “Mother”.
