Services for Orvis Byklum

Orvis Byklum, 63, of Grygla, MN, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, after a long battle with cancer.

 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 10:30 AM in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, rural Grygla, MN with Rev. Vicki Saude-Worthington Officiating. Burial will follow at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN.

 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN.  Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church.

 

Orvis Eldon Byklum was born on May 8, 1952 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Ole and Ingeborg (Johnson) Byklum.  He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN.  Orvis attended school in Grygla and Goodridge, graduating in 1970.

 

During high school and following, Orvis worked at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls until 1980.

He worked for Farmers Union in Grygla until he started dairy and grain farming full-time.  In 2012 he sold the dairy cows, switching to beef cows while continuing with grain farming.

 

On October 22, 1976 Orvis was united in marriage to Marilou Yager in Thief River Falls, MN.  They first made their home in Thief River Falls and moved to Grygla in 1979.  The couple was blessed with three awesome children:  Jessica, Lisa, and Kevin.

 

Orvis served on the Marshall Beltrami Soil and Water Board for many years among other various boards.  He served on the church council at Our Savior’s Church.  Orvis loved going for drives and four-wheeling, deer hunting with his family, playing pinochle with the neighbors, and visiting with family and friends.  He adored his grandchildren, Alexis and Luke and enjoyed taking them for rides on the four-wheeler and tractors.

 

Orvis is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marilou; children:  Jessica Byklum, Lisa (Karl) Bring and Kevin Byklum; grandchildren: Alexis and Luke Bring; sister: Linda (Wes) Skibicki; brother:  Richard Byklum; many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Joan; numerous aunts and uncles and his father-in-law:  Edward Yager.
