Peatland Red potatoes grown north of Trail

Peatland Reds, certified seed and table red potatoes are grown north of Trail, Minnesota on peat soil, also known as muck soil, and are rotated with wild rice crops. After harvest, the potatoes are stored in computerized climate controlled storage.
The farm which also grows paddie rice was started by the Gunvalson Brothers, John, Ken and Jim with John as the president. The farm is located along the Clearwater River which serves as the water source for the crop productions. Snow run-off is collected in the spring as the melting season begins.
Peatland Red potatoes are washed graded, polished, sized and sent on a conveyor to dry. They are graded and packaged for shipping according to size.
Peatland Reds Inc. offers a variety of packaging types and labels for our table potatoes. Under the Peatland Reds label, they are able to package table potatoes in 2000# Totes, 50# Cartons in either a white carton or a black carton, 50# Paper Sack, 20# Poly Bag, 10# Poly Bag, 8# Poly Bag, 5# Poly Bag, 4# Poly Bag and 3# Poly Bag.
Under the Diamond Brand label they are able to package table potatoes in 50# Cartons.
Under our Family Farm Value label they are able to package table potatoes in 50# Cartons and 50# Paper Sacks.
Peatland Reds certified seed potatoes are kept in computerized climate controlled storage until spring and are shipped out to seed buyers at that time.
