Dale E. Hanson, 78, of Clearbrook, passed away at home on February 18, 2024. He was born in Roseau, MN on February 4th, 1946 to Melvin and Florence (Olson) Hanson.
Dale is survived by his children, Erin (Christopher) Handron of Carlsbad, CA and Leah (Troy) Prow of Andover, MN; his sister Melva Hanson of Prescott, AZ; and his four grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Florence Hanson. Dale married Sherry Smith on December 28, 1973 and divorced in 2002.
He attended Wannaska Elementary and Roseau High School, Class of 1964. He was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Lutheran Church in Wannaska, MN.
He earned a B.S. degree in Biology from Moorhead State College (MSU) in 1968. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1968, served as a medic, and was honorably discharged as SSgt in 1972.
He then earned his Carpentry diploma from Northland Technical College, Thief River Falls MN in 1974. From 1974 thru 1976 he was employed by the State of Florida as an environmentalist at Ft Myers and Lake City. He then moved to Clearbrook, MN and used his carpentry skills until he was employed by the MN DNR Trails and Waterways, Fisheries, and State Parks (Hayes Lake and Itasca) in 1983 until 2011. He served as Itasca State Park’s Building Supervisor for 23 years until he retired. During that time, he received several accolades and awards from the State of MN and MN Historical Society for leading the restoration of historic buildings.
To honor Dale’s wishes, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Dale was a devoted father, son, and brother. Please remember him for his love of natural environments, exploration, and proficiency in building.
