Servicess for Marilyn Natwick

Marilyn Natwick, age 75, of Winger, MN, died on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice.
Marilyn Sue McCollum was born on January 12, 1949, at the Mahnomen Hospital.  She was the daughter of Loren and Mary McCollum.  Marilyn grew up with five siblings on a farm east of Bejou, MN.  She attended elementary school in Bejou through the 8th grade and then went to Mahnomen High School where she graduated with the Class of 1967.  After graduation, Marilyn worked as a waitress at a café in Fertile, MN.  She then got a job in Fargo, ND, at the JC Penney Store on Broadway.  One night in 1971, her roommate wanted Marilyn to go along over to the F.M. Hotel in Moorhead, MN, to listen to a band.  Marilyn didn’t want to go, but finally agreed.  They walked in and sat down at a table, when the band took a break, one of the musicians came over to their table, introduced himself and sat down.  He was Dave Natwick.  When the break was over and Dave was on his way up to the stage, he said to himself, “I bet I’ll marry that girl…” and he did! Marilyn said later that she had the same thoughts.  About a year later, Marilyn and Dave were married at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bejou on February 12, 1972.  They were married 52½ years.  This marriage was blessed with two children, Shila Kay and Aaron David.
Marilyn and Dave lived in Dilworth, MN, the first year and then moved to Twin Valley, MN.  They lived there 23 years. While there, Marilyn worked at the Twin Valley High School kitchen for several years.  In 1994, Dave got a job in McIntosh, MN, so they moved to Winger and have lived there to the present.  While living in Winger, Marilyn worked several years at the Win-E-Mac High School kitchen.
Marilyn loved flowers and always had a garden.  She always canned vegetables for the winter ahead.  She liked to sew and bake and enjoyed shopping trips to Bemidji, MN, with her friends.  Marilyn and friends had a Birthday Club.  Every month if anyone had a birthday, Marilyn would call the rest to inform them to meet at Moran’s Supper Club for dinner, the men got to come too.  There was a birthday party just about every month.
Marilyn always looked forward to the annual weekend retreat with her 16 girl cousins on the McCollum side, usually at the lake or someone’s house.  She really enjoyed socializing with family and friends.  Like most grandmas, Marilyn’s grandkids were very special to her, and she talked about them often.
Marilyn and Dave have been members of Calvary Lutheran Church since they moved to Winger.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dave of Winger; daughter, Shila (Dan) Bentley of Moorhead, MN; son, Aaron (Kari) Natwick of Portland, OR, three grandchildren: Jenna and Ethan Bentley of Moorhead and Levi Natwick of Portland; sister-in-law, Cynthia McCollum of Crookston, MN; sister, Phyllis Miller of Thief River Falls, MN; brothers, Ordell (Doris) McCollum of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Terry (Theresa) McCollum of Bejou; sister, Laurie (Mike) Semanko of Fargo, ND; aunts: Phyllis First of Durant, IA, Ethel Brodsho of Fargo and Pat McCollum also of Fargo; many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Mary; brother, Dennis McCollum; and brother-in-law, Bob Miller.
Blessed be the memory of Marilyn Natwick.
