Services for Viola Gunning Moen

Viola Gunning Moen, 91, died on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at The Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, MN.  

 

A service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, MN with Reverend Bob Kirchman officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

 

She was born with her twin sister, Mildred, on December 20, 1925 in Bagley, MN, the daughter of Leo and Martha Nelson. She attended school and was raised in Bagley. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on June 15, 1941. She married Arthur Gunning on September 28, 1946. They had five children together and built their home in Clearbrook. They later divorced. Viola married Francis Moen on August 3, 1986 in Blackduck, MN. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at The Good Samaritan Center for over 20 years.

Viola loved animals, especially cats. Throughout her years, she raised all kinds of creatures, including fawns and squirrels. She had a special way of calling the cattle in that made the cows always come. She enjoyed going on walks and keeping in shape. She spent many hours outside in her flower gardens.

Viola loved her family and always worried about her children. She was a loving mother and will be very missed.

 

She is survived by her children, Dwight (Corliss) Gunning of Fosston, MN, Douglas (Robin) Gunning of Prior Lake, MN, Debra (Daryl) Nelson of Clearbrook, MN, and Teri (Bill) Russell of Vacaville, CA; her grandchildren, Tracy Gustafson, Gretchan Gunning, Dara Omang, Nathan Russell, and Jonathan Solberg, Katie Halvorson, and Maisie Gunning (Mother, Connie Solberg); and her great grandchildren, Nicholas, Hayden, Thomas, Jack, Leo, Daisy, Destry, Trever, Gavin, Kinsley, and Kennedy.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Martha Nelson; her husband, Francis Moen; her son, Brian Gunning; her brother, Norman Nelson; her sister, Natalie Netland; and her twin sister, Mildred Lofstrand.
