Services for Vernon Gagnon

Vernon Gagnon of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Valley Elder Care in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his loving family.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 10:30 AM   in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner and Deacon John Bruggeman officiating. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery at Terrebonne.

Visitation will be held on Monday 5 – 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Vernon Roman Gagnon was born November 3, 1930 at Gervais Township, Red Lake County, MN son of George and Anna (Kotlan) Gagnon. He was raised in the Terrebonne area and attended Beau Gerlot country school through 8th grade, he attended Lafayette High School graduating in 1948. Vern worked on the family farm and also at the Beet Factory in East Grand Forks. His father passed away in 1952 and Vern took over the family farm.

Vern entered the US Army on November 18, 1954 and served his country until his honorable discharge on November 16, 1956.

On June 11, 1958 he was united in marriage to Valiere Ann Strnad at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Williams, MN. The couple returned to the family farm in Terrebonne where they have spent their entire lives. They raised dairy cows, pigs, chickens, geese and ducks. In the later years he sold the cows and farmed small grains. He also worked for Ken’s Electric for 27 years, drove school bus and was a Federal Crop adjuster. Since 2000 the couple spent winters in Arizona.

Vern was a feather weight Golden Gloves Boxer in his younger years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, playing smear at the American Legion. He loved to tinker and fix things from farm equipment to home improvement projects. He loved to spend time outdoors in his yard working on the lawn, or taking care of his trees.

Vern was an active member of St Anthony Catholic Church until it’s closing, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, Knights of Columbus, the Lions Club, Past Commander of the American Legion.

Vern is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Val Gagnon of Red Lake Falls, MN; children Tim Gagnon of Grand Forks, ND, Tony (Kim) Gagnon of Trempealeau, WI, Lynette (Nate) Triebwasser of Hawley, MN; grandchildren Ethan, Carson, Avery, Neva, Reagan and Grace; sisters-in-law Carol Gagnon of Two Rivers, WI, Arlene Gagnon of Waterford, WI, Kathryn Pieper of Williams, MN; brother-in-law Robert (Carolyn) Strnad of Moorhead, MN along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Robert, Harold “Lloyd”, Raymond.
