Services for Velda F. (Prestby) Hetland
Velda F. (Prestby) Hetland, age 91, of Bloomington, MN, passed away on December 21, 2020. Velda was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Hetland; parents, Erling and Metta (Rasmussen) Prestby; and sisters, Vivian Olson, Donna Danielson, Shirley Eck, and Claudette Bodin.
Velda is survived by her daughters Valerie (John) Harrison and Tracey Hetland; grandchildren Patrick (Ellen) Harrison, John (Kimberly) Harrison, Katherine Harrison, and Laura (Steve) Herron; great-granddaughters Emily, Aubrey, and Nora; brother Virgil (Leilani) Prestby; and nieces and nephews. Velda grew up in Gonvick, MN. After high school, she attended beauty school and pursued a career in the beauty industry and spent over 25 years working in Loehmann’s infamous “Back Room.”
Velda and Wayne were married for 64 years and enjoyed traveling, dancing, and playing cards with their friends. Velda loved to bake (cinnamon rolls, bread, and lots of different cookies), crochet, and play cards and games. Most importantly, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family and who will be dearly missed. A private family service will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
