Thomas Ole Roen was born on January 16, 1961 at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, MN the son of Russell B. and Alice June (Cline) Roen.  He was baptized on February 19, 1961 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN.  Tom attended Red Oak Elementary School and Irondale High School in Mounds View, MN.   In 1976, when he was in the 10th grade the family moved to Thorhult, MN.  He graduated from Grygla High School in Grygla, MN in 1979.

On September 27, 1980, Tom was united in marriage to his high school Sweetheart, Darlyne Sylvia Moe at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN.  The couple lived in Thief River Falls, MN for a year and then built a home in Thorhult where they continued to reside.  To this union three daughters were born, Stephanie, Danelle and Betsy.

In his early years, Tom worked for Stanley Farms, and in 1984 went to work at Marvin Windows in Warroad, MN for the next five years.  During that time, he started carpentry work which turned into building log homes full time.  Tom’s log home building company was called Triple T Timber Products.  They built homes throughout the woods and lakes area of northwestern MN.  In addition to building homes, Tom did custom lumber sawing with the mill Darlyne’s father, Leonard Moe blessed them with.  They also ran a small herd of beef cattle on their family farm.

Tom loved to hunt and fish providing food for his family.  He also liked trapping, riding snowmobile, motorcycle, hunting coons with his dogs, riding mules with Darlyne, target shooting, and picking morel mushrooms.  He enjoyed making burl bowls out of black ash, gun stocks, hunting knives and log furniture which he sold at gun shows across Minnesota.  Tom was very laid back, had a quiet gentle soul, was patient and kind, had a big heart, a great sense of humor and would go out of his way to help anybody in need.

Tom’s best friend was his wife, Darlyne with whom he had coffee every morning at 4:00 AM before she left for work.  He loved her cooking, baking, beautiful smile, and they shared a rare unbreakable bond.

Tom loved his girls, Stephanie, Danelle and Betsy who he raised to be strong independent women.  He taught them to change a tire and shoot a gun.  As a confirmation present, they each received a shotgun that he picked out.  Tom also loved shooting, fishing and spending time with his grandkids.

Tom served as Supervisor on the Steenerson Township Board in Beltrami County and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of rural Grygla.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Darlyne of Thorhult, MN; daughters, Stephanie (Travis) Torgerson of Newfolden, MN, Danelle Roen of Jamestown, ND and Betsy (Joseph Drellack) Roen of St. Augusta, MN; grandchildren, Sawyer Torgerson, Tanner Torgerson, Tyrel Osborn, and Rozalyn Osborn; mother, June Newhouse of Crookston, MN; siblings, Joel (Mary) Roen of Webster, WI, Suzan Lewis of Alexandria, MN, and Anne (Rex) Brawley of Garrison, ND; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
