Services for Sylvia Borghild Jurgens

Sylvia Borghild Jurgens, 104, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Leonard, MN and Clearbrook, MN., died October 2, 2018 at PioneerCare. 

Sylvia was born October 19, 1913 to Julius and Ella (Walaker) Aaseng in McIntosh, MN.  In 1931 she graduated from McIntosh High School and in 1935 from Bemidji State Teachers College with an Elementary Certificate.  She then taught for a few years in one room rural schools.

On December 23, 1940, Sylvia married Fred Jurgens at McIntosh, MN.   She then raised her family, worked on the farm and was very active at church, school, 4-H, and other community organizations.  After her children were grown, she spent some years as an educational aide at Clearbrook Elementary School.

After her husband’s death, Sylvia moved to Clearbrook, MN then in 2004 to Fergus Falls.

Sylvia enjoyed baking wedding cakes, bars, cookies and donuts. She baked wedding cakes for two generations in some families.

Sylvia was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leonard; American Legion Auxiliary, 4-H Leader, Clearwater County Outstanding Senior Citizen for 1999, Sunday School Teacher, one of the founders of Our Saviors meatball supper.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Ella; husband, Fred; sisters, Norma (Cliff) Olson; brothers, Belvin (Viola), Ronald (Florence); Fred’s siblings and spouses; one infant great-grandchild; one infant great-great-grandchild

Sylvia is survived by three sons, Paul (Janet) of Owen, WI, Gene (Sharon) of Fergus Falls, MN, Allan (Rose Fohr) of Burlington, WI

10 grandchildren Jeff, Michelle, Milinda, Al, Kelly, Christina, Katrina, Heidi, Chad, Shawn; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation:                            One hour prior to the Service at PioneerCare

Memorial Service:             Friday, October 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at PioneerCare Chapel, Fergus Falls

Clergy:                                  Chaplain David Strom

Interment:                          1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Bagley City Cemetery, Bagley, MN

with lunch and fellowship to follow at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Leonard, MN.
