Services for Sybil Almira (Berg) Bergman

Sybil Almira (Berg) Bergman, 86, of Clearbrook, Minnesota passed on to eternity on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab in Bagley, MN. Blessed be her memory.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be held at Augustana Lutheran Cemetery in Clearbrook, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.

Sybil was born on July 27, 1935 in Grygla, MN to parents Alma (Lindgren) and Erick Berg. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Alvin Bergman on July 18, 1953.

Sybil loved many things in life, especially her family: her husband, Alvin, her children, Sharon and Neal, her grandsons and their wives and children, and her many friends. She also loved music. She especially loved dancing and singing out loud whenever she was alone and playing piano when she thought no one could hear. She loved her church. She was a member of Oak Park Lutheran Church and later Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Sybil was an active member and served as the president and treasurer of the church council for several years. She loved golfing and bowling (though she said she never won any awards for either) and was an avid reader and crossword puzzle master. She also loved to play cards, especially whist, where she loved nothing more than to beat her opponents. Traveling was also a favorite past time.

Sybil was an active community member. She was a leader of the Eddy Energetics 4-H Club and attended state conventions and was selected to attend the National 4-H convention in Washington, D.C. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Melvin Johnson Post #256 in Clearbrook. Over the years, she served as president, secretary, and treasurer. She also marched with the Color Guard.

Sybil was an integral part, along with her husband and other community members, in creating the Wes Westrum Baseball museum. She spent many hours gathering memorabilia and working to make the museum possible.

Sybil was employed as the business manager for the Clearbrook Public School for 35 years. She had fond memories of her years at the school.

Betty Langseth was Sybil’s catering partner for many years. They cooked for weddings, funerals, graduations, fund raisers, and any occasion that required food. She always said they were “great times”!

Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents, Erick and Alma Berg; her mother-and father-in-law, Elin and Henry Bergman; her brothers, Frank and Armand Berg; her sister, Norma Emerson, son-in-law, Jerel D. Johnson; and numerous brothers and sister-in-law.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Johnson (Bob Garland) and Neal Bergman (Cindy Hogan); her five grandsons, Joshua Bergman, Nicholas (Vickie) Bergman, Ethan (Heidi) Johnson, Dana (Andrea) Johnson, and Marcus Johnson; seven great grandchildren; her sister, Yvonne (Tulla) Enerson; two sisters-in-law, Alice Forsberg and Loli Berg; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family.
