Sharon Marie (Vorderbruggen) Halvorson, 76, of Bagley, Minnesota went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 24th, 2022 with her loving family by her bedside.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cease Funeral Home in Bagley, Minnesota with a visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will be served at the Fireside Grill and Patio in Bagley, MN immediately following the service. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Sharon was born at Ramsey Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 5, 1945. As an infant, Sharon came to live with Ben (Bernard) and Jennie (Fletcher) Vorderbruggen. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love with this tiny Asian cutie. They couldn’t imagine living without Sharon in their lives, so shortly after she legally became their daughter. Sharon immediately became the darling of five older brothers and four older sisters and the joy of her parents, Ben and Jennie.
Sharon attended Bagley schools, graduating with honors with the class of 1963. After graduation, Sharon attended Cosmetology School in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Once getting her license, she worked at the Looking Glass Beauty Salon in Bagley.
While “cruising” one afternoon, Doug Halvorson noticed a pretty girl walking with a friend. After stopping and talking to her, he asked her for a date and she accepted! One date lead to another and on November 28, 1964 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bagley, Sharon became the bride of Douglas Arthur Halvorson. This union lasted 54 years until Doug’s death on February 5, 2018.
Sharon and Doug welcomed their first son, Paul Douglas in 1965 and in 1969 Darin Lee made the Halvorson family complete. 1969 marked the year Doug and Sharon bought 75 acres just south of Bagley where they made their home a welcoming place for family and friends.
Sharon worked for Everhart Electric as an office manager and bookkeeper. She also was a Day Care provider. The little ones in her charge loved going to Sharon’s home and the parents of the children knew they were getting excellent care. Sharon later worked at the West Side Express where she put her people skills to good use.
Sharon was a devoted wife and a loving mother to her sons. Her grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. When great grandchildren arrived, she was overwhelmed with love. Sharon made sure holidays were special family celebrations to cherish and remember. Her frosted sugar cookies, lemon bars, doughnuts, popcorn balls, banana bread, and wild rice hotdish were legendary. She had an amazing artistic talent. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do with her beautiful, little hands. Knitting, painting, woodcrafts, and beadwork were just some of the things she did with skill and perfection.
Sharon loved card games, the ”slots”, reading, tending to her yard and flower gardens. She enjoyed getting together with friends, sharing a delicious appetizer and cool cocktail. Sharon loved to dance to country and “50’s” music. She like traveling, camping, and she looked forward to summer visits from their New Mexico family, her in-laws, Clarence and Lil Halvorson, brothers in-law, Dave, Dale, and Donnie and their families.
In 2009, Sharon suffered a debilitating stroke which greatly affected her speech and mobility. In 2016, due to deteriorating health, Sharon was moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Clearbrook, MN. She later lived at Cornerstone Assisted Living in Bagley for a short time and most recently Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji. Sharon endured the challenges of her stroke and the losses COVID brought to the healthcare system with grace and dignity.
Sharon was an amazing person that thought of others first, loved her precious family unconditionally and practiced her Christian Faith by her loving acts of kindness to others. She was the favorite Aunt of her numerous nieces and nephews.
Sharon is survived by her children, Paul (Ashley) Halvorson and Darin Halvorson of Bagley, MN; her grandchildren,  Desiree (Brandon) Erickson of Shevlin, MN, Destiny, Dalen and Branlee of Bagley, MN, and Bria and Paityn Halvorson of Bagley, MN; her great grandchildren, Denzlee, Danika, and Michael Erickson; brothers-in-law, David (Diane) Halvorson and Donnie (Marylin) Halvorson of Farmington, NM; numerous nieces and nephews; special daughter-in-law, Lynette Waggoner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Halvorson; her parents, Ben and Jennie Vorderbruggen, her in-laws, Clarence and Lil Halvorson; her brothers, George (Alice), Francis (Nellie), John (Charlotte), Benjamin and David (Ruth) Vorderbruggen; her sisters, Marion (Vern) Peterson, Bernice Hanson, Elizabeth (Cliff) Schmidt, and Nancy (Jim) Farrell; brother-in-law, Dale (Francis) Halvorson; 5 nephews; 4 great nephews; and 2 nieces.
