Services for Roy Westlake
Roy Westlake, 73, of Red Lake Falls, MN passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 10:30 AM in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Reverend Jonathan Dodson Officiating. Burial will be held at Emardville Cemetery near Plummer.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 5 - 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Roy Thomas Westlake was born December 12, 1942 in Emardville Township, Red Lake County, MN son of the late John and Ruby (Wright) Westlake. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church in Plummer. He attended Pershing High School in Plummer.
Roy entered the US Army May 19, 1964 and served until his honorable discharge on May 18, 1966, following his discharge he went to Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and received his degree in Tool and Dye. He worked as a machinist for a few years in Minneapolis and up in the Iron Range.
On August 25, 1979 Roy was united in marriage to Mary Beth Burns in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. To this union two children were born Wade Thomas and Amber Kayla.
The couple made their home in Plummer, MN with his employment as a Union Millwright working throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. In later years he worked at Thygeson Construction and Transystems until his retirement in 2005. They moved to Moorhead, MN in that year, returning to Red Lake Falls in July 2014 to be closer to the family.
Roy enjoyed deer hunting, ice fishing and 4-wheeling. He was a member of the American Legion in Plummer, MN, Lion's at Hazen, ND and Scout Master for the Plummer Cub Scouts. He enjoyed playing cards, drinking coffee, shaking dice and keeping up on current events.
Roy is survived by his wife Mary Beth Westlake of Red Lake Falls, MN, children Wade Thomas Westlake of Plummer, MN and Amber Kayla (Shawn Larson) Grove of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren Landen Thomas and Jaxen John Grove; siblings Orville (Betty) Westlake of Grand Rapids, MN, Nellie Galley of Rochester, MN, John (Charlie) Westlake, of Manitowoc, WI, Ruthella (Vince) Austad of Nashwauk, MN, Phyllis (Ordean) Rystad of Oklee, MN and Lewis (Diane) Westlake, Moorhead, MN; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Ruby Westlake, father and mother-in-law Gerald and Fern Burns, siblings George Westlake Sr., Anne Van Den Einde, infant sister Nell Westlake; brothers-in-law Roy Van Den Einde, Wayne Galley and Rodney Burns; son-in-law Jeffrey Grove; nephews and nieces George Westlake Jr. Nicholas Burns, Jared Burns, James Bruggeman, Natalie Burns and Jane Van Den Einde.
