Services for Roger W. Beckstrand

Roger W. Beckstrand, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, MN.

Roger was born February 12, 1930 at Clearbrook, MN the son of Iver and Lillian (Lindberg) Beckstrand.  He attended Clearbrook High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 serving as a tail gunner in the Naval Air Force, primarily in North Africa.  After Roger was honorably discharged from the service, he returned to Clearbrook where he met and married Gloria Lanske on June 10, 1953 at Bagley, Minnesota.   He worked for the city of Bagley for several years and then joined Ottertail Power Company as a lineman and assistant Foreman.  After 32 years serving the Hallock, Clearbrook and Bemidji areas, Roger retired as a Foreman.  Roger was active in the community serving on the volunteer fire department of Clearbrook, the Clearbrook City Council and the Melvin Johnson American Legion Post #256 of Clearbrook.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

Roger and Gloria were members of Faith Lutheran Church, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Tricia Mattson officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 with sharing time at 6:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley, MN. Visitation will also be one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at the Alida Cemetery at Alida, Minnesota.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, sister - Fern Churness and brothers -Carroll, Duane and Van.

Roger is survived by his wife, Gloria, of 62 years, of Bagley, MN

Sons -  Butch (Kathy) Lanske of Circle Pines, MN

Bruce (Phyllis) Lanske of Plymouth, MN

Brother -  Sheldon Beckstrand

Sisters -  Audrey Peterson and Melva Patton

Grandchildren - Matthew, Jamie, Daniel and Michael Lanske and great-grandchildren Ava Marie, Lukas  and Olivija, and Jim and Mary Gustafson who also were an integral part of Roger and Gloria’s life.  Roger was particularly fond of children and always looked forward to time with his grandchildren. Also we would like to issue a special "thank you" to the staff of the Good Samaritan Home where Roger has been cared for in recent months.
