Services for Roger Dahl

Roger Dahl, age 73, of Winger, MN, died suddenly on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.
Roger Allan Dahl, the son of Obert and Ovidia (Morvig) Dahl, was born on August 11, 1949, in Mahnomen, MN.  He grew up on the family farm and attended grade school in Bejou. Roger was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. After graduating from Mahnomen High School in 1967, Roger worked in the cities at Armour until February of 1968, when he enlisted in the Air Force.  He honorably served with the Air National Guard until his discharge in 1974. On March 1, 1972, Roger was united in marriage to Geraldine Larsen in Sisseton, SD. A few years later, the couple purchased a farm south of Winger, where he built their family home. As a young man, Roger worked as a Police Officer for the City of Mahnomen before he began farming full-time. While farming and raising their family, Roger and Geraldine also owned and operated D&G Bar and Grill in Bejou for 27 years together.  In addition, he worked for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier for Winger and Mentor, MN, routes for 35 years until his retirement in 2016.  While working for the US Postal Service he was also a Union Steward. In the 2008, Roger and Geraldine purchased a home on Cable Lake near Mentor, MN, where they lived until returning to the farm in 2015. Even with his amazing work ethic and crazy hours, Roger still made time for family.  He loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, hosting family get-togethers, grilling, and playing cards.  He was known to get up early in the morning and start singing, making sure everyone else in the house woke up too.  Roger was a prankster and never ceased his teasing.  He also spent many hours on his lawn mower, with his squirrel gun always by his side.  Before his health battles, Roger served on the Immanuel Church board and the Winger Township board. In more recent years, with limited mobility and chronic pain, Roger stayed close to home, in the company of those he loved.
Roger is survived by his wife of 50 years, Geraldine; three daughters: Renae Dahl of Crookston, MN, Jody (Kyle) Cantwell of Winger, and Candace (Bob) Sorensen of Valley City, ND; one son, Allan (Sue) Dahl of Bagley, MN; 18 grandchildren: Blaine (Candace), Dillion (Victoria), Cody, Austin, Zachary, Samantha (Cody), Ethan (Marissa), Seth, Alexis, Brayden, Allie, Tyler, EmmaLee, Jesse (Star), Ella (Aden), Mya (Ayden), Craig, and Levi; and seven great grandchildren: Sophie, Cloe, Aubrey, Carson, Hadley, Hudson, Axel, and one great-baby on the way; and many others who loving referred to Roger as “Grandpa”.
