Robert William Eck, 98, of Bemidji, MN, formerly of Gonvick, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, MN with Reverend Kris Snyder officiating. A visitation will held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley, MN. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with the arrangements.
Robert was born on May 11, 1919 in Winsor Township, MN to Theodore and Emily (Gustafson) Eck. He was baptized and confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick and completed 8th grade at the Winsor School. On August 25, 1945 he was united in Marriage to Mavis Schmunk at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. They lived in Gonvick for most of their life before moving to Bemidji in 2010.
Robert was a hard worker, working on the missile sites in the Minot area, harvesting sugar beets for 30 beet campaigns, driving the milk truck for the Gonvick creamery and he was also a dairy/grain farmer. Robert was a farmer through and through, working from sun up to sun down until he was 86 years old and could no longer nimbly climb into his John Deere tractor. All the grandchildren loved his teasing and joking around. Robert enjoyed visiting over coffee and always had a wave goodbye as well as a “good” handshake. He will be dearly missed.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Mavis of 72 plus years; his children, Bob (Sue) Eck, Darlene (Butch) Peterson, Marian (Keith) Evje, and Rick (Sheery) Eck; his grandchildren, Troy Eck, Candi Houska, Shawn Peterson, Kristi Fradenburgh, Quintin Evje, Vincent Evje, Melanie Tehennepe, and Alera Eck; his 18 great grandchildren; his sister, Tippy (Harlow) Berg and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Emily Eck; an infant son; his grandson, Shane Eck; 2 great grandsons; his brothers, Everett, Walter, Russel, Manfred, Roger, and Marvin Eck; and his sisters, Helen Bakke, AdaBelle Sather, and Wanda Dyrdahl; and 2 great grandsons.
