Services for Polly (Gram) Englund

Polly (Gram) Englund, 78 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2020 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. 

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Ken Bowman Officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery north of Grygla. MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

 

Polly Ann Englund was born February 6, 1942 in Midland, South Dakota to Milford and Clara (Olesen) Gram. The family moved to Moose River when she was about 6 months old. She attended Grygla school through 8th grade. She attended Goodridge High school graduating in 1960. She moved to Thief River Falls, MN to live with the Muzzy family. While in school she enjoyed twirling baton and played on a woman’s basketball team.

 

On January 14, 1961 Polly was united in marriage to Melvin Englund in East Grand Forks, MN. They started a family soon thereafter and continued to live in East Grand Forks. They moved to the Englund family farm outside of Grygla in 1962. As the family increased in size, Polly worked at home as a housewife until the children were of school age. Throughout her life Polly worked at a variety of jobs and gained many skills. She worked in the potato fields, turkey plant, planting trees, Arctic Cat clothing, Marvin Windows, cooked at the Grygla school and was a home health aide. When she had the opportunity, she attended community education classes and learned how to reupholster furniture and decorate cakes and sign language. In addition, she taught knitting and crochet classes. She worked for Machinewell in Grygla where she retired at the age of 62 in order to enjoy fishing at Springsteel Resort in Warroad, MN.

 

Polly enjoyed all types of crafts including quilting, embroidery, knitting and crocheting. She loved playing cards, and video games, flower gardening and spending time with her family and friends. For the past four years she spent time laughing, cooking, eating and creating with her many friends at Skylite apartments. 

 

Polly is survived by her children, Michael (Lynette) Englund of Warroad, MN, Margie (John) Jones of Mounds View, MN, Robert (Wendy) Englund of Grygla, MN, Stacy (Kris) Englund-Petrich of Hibbing, MN; grandchildren Jessica (Spencer) Lahr of Waverly, MN, Jamie (James Elwood) Englund of Thief River Falls, MN, Ann Jones of Columbia Heights, MN, Chelsi (Caleb) Lindley of Gonvick, MN, Jacob Jones of Minneapolis, MN, Austin (Samantha) Englund of Grygla, MN, Saphire (Blake) Walker of Thief River Falls, MN and Topanga Brown of Thief River Falls, MN; great-grandchildren, Arrow, Zelly, and Thistle Lindley, Bexleigh Lahr (one on the way) and Otto Englund. Sisters Bev Hough of Bemidji, MN, Donna (Jim) McNally of King of Prussia, PA, Lois (Dale) Anderson of Middle River, MN, Pat Thompson of Northome, MN, Merrilee (Ross) Shoultz of Lastrup, MN and Melissa Wolf of Casa Grande, AZ; Brothers Kay (Irene) Gram of Rochester, MN and Dale (Linda) Gram of Bloomington, MN, along with several nieces and nephews as well as the Loopy Ladies from Skylite apartments.

 

Polly is preceded in death by her husband Melvin on March 3, 2020, parents, siblings infant Larry & Duane Gram.
