Services for Phyllis Holte

Phyllis Holte, 91, of Grygla, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN with her loving family at her side.

Memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Vicki Saude-Worthington officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Olaf Cemetery near Grygla in the spring.

Phyllis Louise Hahn was born on January 9, 1928 at her parent’s home in rural Strandquist, MN to Louis and Gertrude (Sanger) Hahn.  Phyllis was baptized and confirmed in St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Strandquist.  She attended elementary school and graduated from Strandquist High School. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator in Thief River Falls, MN. 

While visiting her sister, Harriet and brother-in-law, Martin Holte, she met her future husband Otto.  He had just returned from World War II. On November 4, 1947 they were united in marriage at the parsonage in Grygla. Together they operated a small grain and dairy farm with their three sons and two daughters. Phyllis also worked at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Phyllis enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting, baking for her family and was a wonderful cook.  She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, WELCA and Lull-A-While Homemakers. After retirement, she became an expert at putting 1000-2500 piece puzzles together.  Family always came first! Her most treasured gift was spending time with her family and her faith.

Survivors include her children, Timothy, Marla (Chester) Yonke, Suellen (Michael) Needham, Terris (Diane), Jody (Donna); 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant daughter, Jennifer; daughter-in-law, Marion; two brothers, Stanley and Ralph; two sisters, Delores and Harriet; one infant grandchild; and two infant great-grandchildren.
