She was born north of Trail, MN on the family farm on February, 28, 1923, the daughter of Peter and Clara (Clausen) Berg. The family moved to the Berner area, where she went to the Meadowbrook Country School and Windsor School before graduating from Gonvick High School. She continued her education and graduated from Bemidji Business College in 1944. She went on to work at the Bank in Oaklee, MN. Her family moved to Ogden, UT, but she fell in love and traveled to Texas on a train to be with Milan T. Clemenson. They were united in marriage on January 27, 1945 in Mineral Wells, TX. They took the train back to Minnesota to enjoy Milan’s furlough before he was deployed overseas to serve in WWII. While he was away, their first child, Susan was born while Phyllis stayed with her parents. After Milan came back, they bought a farm and happily lived there for sixty plus years until Milan passed away in his home on March 29, 2004.

Phyllis worked at Northern State Bank in Gonvick for 23 years before retiring only to find she did not like retirement. She began working at the Mrs. Olson Lefse factory and officially retired at 81. She was very involved in her church at United Lutheran, whether it was helping with the Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday School, or assisting anyone with a helping hand. Phyllis was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved Berner and her community there.

Phyllis loved her farm with her garden and chickens. She was an amazing baker, known especially for her chocolate chip cookies. She adored her family and did her best to make sure they all knew how much she loved them. Phyllis was a soft, sweet woman with a tender and honest heart. She will be tremendously missed. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her children, Susan Paulson, Sharon (James) Solien, Linda (Keith) Barcus, Dennis Clemenson and fiancé Harriet, Cindy (Jerry) Erickson, and Sandy (Ken) Charpentier; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and a special daughter-in-law, Renae Clemenson.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milan Clemenson; her parents, Peter and Clara Berg; her siblings, Mavis Clemenson, Duane Berg, and Joyce Hart; and her son-in-law, Dick Watne.
