Services for Paul Melvin Brustad

Paul Melvin Brustad, passed away Saturday December 3rd 2022 at his home in Bagley, MN from advanced heart failure. 
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, Minnesota.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 of Bagley, MN.  The Bagley Fire Department will provide a Fireman Detail in remembrance for Paul’s 23 active years of service. The Cease Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. 
Paul, the only child of Mary (Moen) & Melvin Brustad was born November 8th 1942 at the old Bagley Hospital. Because of the war Paul did not meet his father until he was three years old.
He was baptized as a child & confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended school in Bagley and graduated with the class of 1960. After graduation, he worked in the construction field until he was drafted into the US Army in 1964. He went to basic training at Fort Rucker, Alabama and trained in Aircraft Maintenance as a Helicopter Mechanic. After basic training, he was stationed at Coleman Barracks in Mannheim Germany. While on leave he toured Denmark, Sweden & found and visited with his mother’s ancestors in Norway. He was honorably discharged as SP5 E5 in November of 1966.
On March 30, 1968, He was united in marriage to Lorraine Klasse at Our Savior Lutheran Church at Ebro Corner. To this union 3 children were born, Todd Melvin, Keiza LaRae & Amanda Jo. They moved into their home on Sand Lake Ave when Todd was brought home from the hospital. 
During the first years Paul was employed by Twin Cities Marble as a ceramic tile setter. In 1972, he was hired by Minnesota (Koch Ind) Pipeline as an operator/gauger. After 24 years, he semi-retired & went to work for Lakehead (Enbridge) Pipeline in grounds maintenance. He completely retired from the Clearbrook Pipelines after 34 years. During his retirement years, he was a fill in courier for Sanford Medical Center.  Over the years he has made many friends wherever he happened to be.
Paul was a 50+ year member of the American Legion Post #16, serving on the executive board for a number of years. He served on the Bagley Fire Department for 23 years, serving as 2nd Assistant Chief and retiring in 1999. Following in his firefighting footsteps are his son Todd & daughter Amanda.  He was also a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley.
Paul was never a ball player like his father, but as a boy he served as the bat boy for the Bagley Merchants. He enjoyed watching football & baseball, especially the Vikings & the Twins. He had an amazing memory of the players from the 50’s to the present time. Paul enjoyed fishing, camping, grouse & duck hunting and a little deer hunting. His favorite hands-on sport was Curling. He was an amazing & patient skip and was most proud of bringing home the championship trophy for the American Legion Men’s Novice Bonspiel in 1997.  He & Lorraine curled together in the Legion Mixed and the Clearwater County Mixed Bonspiels for over 20 years.  He enjoyed mowing grass at home and at the farm during the summers and loved his big black snowplow truck in the winter.  He also enjoyed watching old westerns on Grit.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of 54+ years. His son Todd Brustad of Bagley, Daughter Keiza Clubb & her children Cole & Marina Clubb, of Inver Grove Heights, Mn & daughter Amanda Jo Brustad of Bagley. Brustad cousins: Gary, Shirley, Ricky, Susan, Kim, Mike, Wayne, Leah, Bonnie, Jack & Deb.  Moen cousins: Kenny, Suzanne, Merry Ellen, Bunny & Tommy. Brother-in-Law Gene Klasse of Lake Stevens, WA and numerous Nephews & Nieces.
He was preceded in death by His parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, various in laws and his favorite dog of all time, Molly.
