Services for Palmer “Laverne” Brein
Palmer “Laverne” Brein, 88, of Leonard, Minnesota, died on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley, MN with Reverend Robert Kirchman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be at Clover Cemetery in Leonard, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
He was born on June 27, 1929 in Clearbrook, Minnesota, the only child of Christian “Palmer” and Clara (Torgerson) Brein. He attended country school and went on to help on the family farm. Laverne worked and traveled across northern Minnesota doing road construction and operating heavy equipment. He was united in marriage to Marlyce Newman on September 3, 1949 in Bemidji, MN. Together they raised a family in Leonard, MN. In 1960, the family moved to their own farm. Tragically, Marlyce passed away in a car accident in 1968. Laverne married Ardelle on October 30, 1969. They were together until her passing in 2010. Laverne served on the Clover Township Board and was the sexton and caretaker of Clover Cemetery. Laverne was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, trap, snowmobile, and fish. He had some great hunting and fishing trips in Canada. He enjoyed life.
He is survived by his children, Ken (Laurie), Ellen (Maynard), Marcia (Dave), Mary (Frank), Paul, Grace (John), and David (Sandy); his step children, Doug, Deanne (Terry), and Lee; 22 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; and his special friend, Janette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Clara Brein; his wives, Marlyce and Ardelle; and his step son Jeffrey Sather.
