SNEADS FERRY, NC - Muriel Bjerknes Myhrum, 90, of Sneads Ferry, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter in Wilmington, NC. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, November 4th at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Jacksonville, NC with Rev. Hugh Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Muriel Bjerknes Myhrum was born August 28, 1925 in Gonvick, Minnesota to parents, Henry and Josephine (Holte) Bjerknes. She graduated from Gonvick High School in 1943. She also graduated from French’s Business College in Bemidji, MN. She was employed by Sears and Honeywell in Minneapolis.
Muriel was united in marriage to Parnell Myhrum on September 15, 1946 at Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick. Muriel and Parnell were married for 69 years and of this union were born four children: Barbara, Parnell, Jr., Karen and Kristi. She was an avid sports athlete, having played on several civic and church league softball teams. She was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Jacksonville, NC and held positions of leadership in the congregation. Muriel was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve Association. She took great pride in her family and was very supportive of her husband’s naval career.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara; her parents; sister, Irene; and brothers, Morris, Jerome, Kenneth, Bernard, George and John.
Survivors include her husband, Parnell of Sneads Ferry, NC; son, Parnell, Jr. (Kaye) of Cary, NC; daughter, Karen (Tom) of Sneads Ferry, NC; daughter, Kristi (Lonnie) of Wake Forest, NC; brother, James of Alexandria, MN; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, November 2nd from 5 – 7 PM at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
