Milton Carlson, age 98, of Winger, MN, passed away on Friday, September 6th, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10th, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger with the Rev. Gordon Syverson officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Winger. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday and for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. All visitation will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.
Milton Pharis Carlson was born to Arthur and Minnie (Benson) Carlson on August 30, 1921 in his Grandparents farm home west of Erskine, Minnesota. His paternal Grandmother Anna Carlson served as the midwife during his birth. When Milton was 3 years old his family moved to Fosston, Saskatchewan, Canada where they bought a farm. Milton attended Fosston Rural School there. In 1939, when Milton was 18 years old, they moved back to the United States onto a farm south of Erskine. Milton farmed with his Dad on the farm.
On June 11, 1947 Milton married Fern Marie Johnson at her Grandparents home in Mentor, Minnesota. They began their married life on the farm Milton had farmed with his Dad south of Erskine. They were blessed with three children, Paul, Wanda and Judith. Milton and Fern lived by Erskine until April 1, 1966 when they bought a farm southwest of Winger where they farmed and eventually went into partnership with their son Paul in the farming operation. Milton enjoyed working with and riding horses throughout his life. He was always active in his church and served on many boards throughout his lifetime. He truly loved the Lord.
Milton is survived by his children, Paul (Donna Rae) Carlson of Winger, MN, Wanda (Richard) Donovan of St. Francis, MN, and Judith (Lonny) Gieseke of McIntosh, MN. Grandchildren, Chad (Michelle) Carlson, Brent (Jennifer) Carlson, Kristin (Monte) Erickson, Sheila (Christopher) Benesh, Adam (Jessica) Carlson, Dustin (Nickie) Carlson, Brittney (Timothy) Holmes, James (Roxanne) Peterson, Mark W (Melinda) Peterson, Joseph (Laura) Peterson, Lisa (Roy) Schaumburg, Kari Ann (Michael) Keller. Step Grandchildren, Christopher (Amy) Donovan, Shannon (Christopher) Hovanec, Jayme (Henry) Gruden, Mark E Peterson, Bryan Peterson and 37 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, A. Merlin (Marilyn) Carlson of New Ulm, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years and 4 months, Fern; his parents; Brother and sister-in-law, Allan (Elaine) Carlson, Sister and brother-in-law, Lila (Gordon) Lerfald, Step sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Ed) Pryor, Step sister-in-law, Ramona (Neil) Prescott, Grandchildren, Ryon Dale Gieseke and Jill Michelle Gieseke; and Great Grandchild, Jamie Michelle Peterson.
