Services for Mary L. Sather
Mary L. Sather, 72, of Gonvick, Minnesota died on Sunday, December 12, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at The Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley with the Reverend Kris Snyder officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the Lund Lutheran Cemetery in Gully, MN.
Mary Lucken (Buer) Sather was born May 10, 1949 in Bagley, MN to parents Olaf and Zona (Granley) Buer. She was baptized and confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church. Mary grew up on the farm east of Gonvick where she loved being out in the barn with her dad, spending time with the sheep and raising bottle lambs. Climbing trees and being in the woods were a great part of her life. She attended school in Gonvick and graduated in 1967. After graduating, she moved to Minneapolis and worked at the Federal Reserve Bank for three years.
On June 2, 1973, Mary married Paul Francis Sather at Samhold. They lived in Pipestone for a bit while Paul attended Brick Laying School. Together they built their house on the 40 acres east of where she grew up. In 1979, their son, Leif Erick was born. Paul, Mary and Leif spent hours fishing in the summers until Mary tired of it and stayed home! Mary worked at the Northern State Bank in Gonvick for well over 30 years, retiring in 2014. At Samhold, Mary was involved with the Ladies group, worked as a Financial Secretary and many other activities. On December 13, 1990 Paul passed away suddenly.
Nineteen years ago, September 2002, she received a gift of a liver transplant and was forever grateful to her donor and his family.
Mary was a very practical, no-nonsense person. Her interests were cross country skiing, gopher trapping, old country western music, especially Jim Reeves, playing her guitar, singing, writing songs, and entertaining family and friends with her skits, planting trees, gardening, flowers, watching birds, painting, baking, sewing, poetry, scrabble, jigsaw and cross word puzzles and doing comical arts and crafts. What she truly loved were dogs! Especially the neighbor dog Jax, her chocolate lab Cocoa, and her precious Corgi pup Peanut. They brought her such joy!
She is survived by her son- Leif Sather of Gonvick, MN.
Brothers-Franklin (Margie) Buer of Trail, MN. and Paul Buer of Gonvick, MN.
Sister-Sonjia Buer of Gonvick, MN.
Nephews-Buddy (Denise) Buer, Ethan and Wyatt
Nieces-Holly O’Shea, Maureen and Irene
Numerous cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul; parents Olaf and Zona; grandparents Ole and Inga (Furuseth) Buer; Peder and Gurine (Lucken) Granley and in-laws-Myron Sather and Elenore (Moe) Sather
Mary endured many struggles in her life. But now she is safe and sound in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! For as 2Timothy 4:7 says; I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Blessed be her memory.
