Services for Mary Ellen (Syverson) (Vind) Loing

Mary Ellen (Syverson) (Vind) Loing, 89, Grand Forks (formerly Reynolds) passed away on Thursday, January 6 in Grand Forks surrounded by her loving children.

Mary was born on August 28, 1932 to Rudolph and Clara (Martinson) Syverson at their home in rural McIntosh, MN. She was baptized at Vernes Lutheran Church in rural McIntosh.

Mary was educated at Lindsay Public School in rural McIntosh, MN through elementary school and graduated from McIntosh High School.

Mary married Roger Vind on September 25, 1954. Roger passed away in 1960.

Mary married Richard Loing on April 9, 1966. They made their living on a farm in rural Reynolds, ND.

Mary worked as a CNA for a few years while living in Crookston and was a homemaker the rest of her life. Mary was an avid gardener and spent countless hours canning, baking and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. The number of people who received goodies from Mary’s garden or kitchen are endless. Mary was famous for her homemade buns and lefse. Anyone receiving these from Mary’s kitchen knew they were getting the best and that they were made with love.

Mary was a member of the Rosendal Lutheran Church until its’ closing and a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church until the time of her death.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husbands Roger Vind and Richard Loing; daughter Connie Lynn Loing; granddaughter Angela Rothe; brothers Francis, Edwin, Alan, Walter, Rupert, Gordon; sisters Alvira, Clara, Ardith, Doris, Anola, Elaine and numerous in-laws and other relatives.

She is survived by children James (Audrey) Vind, Ruth Waller, Nancy (Doug) Rothe, Janet (Randy) Hanson, Randy Loing; grandchildren Jennifer (Lance) Ekern, Sarah Hanson, Kevin Waller, Elizabeth (Paulo) Malater, Dustin Rothe, Melissa Rothe, Josh (Cassie) Rothe, Jacob (Hailey) Loing, Jared Loing; great grandchildren Abigail and Ethan Courtemanche; siblings Norris Syverson and Faith Hanson; numerous in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Monday, January 10 from 5:00-7:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 at Amundson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 11 at 11:00 with visitation for an hour prior to the service at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Thompson, ND. Internment will be at Rosendal Lutheran Church Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be designated to Rosendal Cemetery Association or any other organization of your choice.
