MARVEL BERDINE (OPPEGAARD) DEVINE
Marvel Devine, 89, died February 1, 2020 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Her Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church in Harlingen, TX. Internment will be next to her husband Frank Devine at Ft Snelling Cemetery in St. Paul, MN July 10, 2020.
Marvel was born at home in Erskine, MN on July 15, 1930 to Martin and Bertha Oppegaard. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith August 30, 1930 at Grace Lutheran Church, Erskine, MN and confirmed in 1945 in McIntosh, MN.
Marvel attended grade school near her rural home and graduated from high school in McIntosh, MN in 1949. She attended a business school in Mpls MN and worked as a bookkeeper and travel agent most of her working life.
While in the Mpls area, she met and married Wm Heidenreich, Jr on April 21, 1951. This marriage ended in divorce December 5, 1967 in Portsmouth, NH. On August 22, 1973 she married Francis Devine in Watertown, SD.
On August 29. 1997 Marvel retired from MLT Vacations and moved into her home at The Pines in Harlingen, TX. She lived there until May 1, 2017 when she moved to an apartment at Valley View Senior Living. After a short hospital stay she moved to Valley View Assisted Living March 1, 2019.
She enjoyed her family and friends, and liked to socialize. She loved the Lord, her church and participated in altar guild, Bible studies and church choirs over the years. She enjoyed embroidery, knitting, crocheting and was an avid reader. We will remember her as a sweet, intelligent and kind woman, who loved to have fun.
Marvel is survived by nieces, Fern (Jonathan) Frusti, Jean (Michael) McCabe; nephews Ray (Pat) Schleicher, Carl (Joyce) Oppegaard and Roger (Denise) Oppegaard; Step children: Mary Devine, Richard Devine, Joanne Kenny, Patricia Devine, Colleen Devine, Elizabeth Ginther; Step Grandchildren: Brian, Shannon, Erin and Patrick and several great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by Wm Heidenreich, Jr. and Frank Devine. Marvel was also preceded in death by her parents Martin and Bertha Oppegaard as well as all her siblings: Clarence Oppegaard, Beatrice Solberg, Adelle Schleicher and Duane Oppegaard.
