Boogen was born on May 23, 1944 in Bagley, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Alvina (Hanson) Teigland. After attending the Shevlin School, he hitchhiked to the Southern states and joined a harvesting crew and they worked their way harvesting North. He entered the United States Army on October 17, 1967 and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Expert Badge with his M-14 Rifle. As Private First Class, he was honorably discharged on October 24, 1969. After serving our country, he moved to Duluth and got a job on the iron ore ships. For three years, Boogen worked on the Edmund Fitzgerald, that was one year before it sank. He married Debra Jane Hanson on September 30, 1978 in Chisago County. Debra's daughter, Sharon Rose, took the Teigland name, and their daughter, Shelly Marie, was born in 1980. Boogen went to work driving heavy equipment for road construction, retiring in 1998. He married Rhonda Klostermeier in the 80’s and they later divorced. Boogen built a home on Dahlberg Lake, of which he was very proud. In 1996, he was injured on the job at work. He was a member of the 49’ers union; he enjoyed deer hunting, ice fishing, dark house spearing, Ford tractors and Ford trucks. He especially enjoyed antiquing and driving around looking for old stuff; and he loved his dogs. He traveled all over for work, but always kept his home in Shevlin.

He is survived by his daughter Shelly (Ben) Helberg of Clearbrook, Minnesota; two grandsons, Bryce and Sabin Helberg; sister Netti Swanum of Tennessee; sister Karen (Bert) Lundberg of Tennessee; sister Christie (Lowell) Teigland-Tangjerd of Annapolis, Maryland; brother Ritchie (Sandy) Teigland of Wyoming, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon, and his brother Gale “Red” Teigland.
