Mabel Dewey, age 90, of Bagley, MN died at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab on Saturday, March 30, 2019, Bagley, MN. She is now dancing with the King of kings.
Mabel Victoria Dewey was born November 18, 1928 in Breckenridge, MN to Harry (Pietz) and Marie (Fust) Silverthorn.. From Breckenridge, the family moved for a short time to Forman, ND. In the fall of 1934, they moved to Bemidji, MN. Mabel was almost 6 years old. The Silverthorn Family rented land in Frohm Township and later bought a farm on Little Bass Lake in Turtle River Township.
Mabel is an alumnus of Bemidji high school, class of 1947. She met Henry Doyea/ Dewey while dancing at the Silverthorn Barn Dances. They were married Dec. 11, 1947.
. Hank and Mabel bought Dewey Furniture, downtown Bemidji, from Hank’s Dad’s 1st cousin, Frank and Amanda (Beckon) Doyea/Dewey. They later sold it and purchased another store in Bagley, MN in 1961. It became the Hank Dewey Furniture Store. Hank died Feb 21, 1981.
Mabel loved to dance, watch the Twins, fish, play cards, garden, cook, bake, and sew. Her hands were never idle. She was a Legion Auxiliary member for over 50 years; actively serving at age 89. Mabel belonged to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bagley. She remained a committed, participating member. Her faith in Jesus never wavered.
Mabel is survived by her children: Frank Dewey, Bagley, MN; Kathryn (Keith) McMahon, Carrollton, TX; Judy Kretzschmar, Bagley; & Robert (Susan) Dewey, Clearbrook, MN. Grandchildren: Jenni (Howard) Moore, Adam (Britt) Dewey, Samantha McMahon, Matt (Rachel) McMahon, Jewel (Tim) Fultz, Joy Kretzschmar, Jordan (Sara) Kretzschmar, Autumn (Kris) Benson, Summer Dewey, & Conrad Dewey. Great Grandchildren: Sophia, Emma, Caleb, Jacob, James, Leo, Ruby, & Evangeline; who were her sweethearts. Siblings: Virgil (Faye) Silverthorn, Ardella (Clarence) Lindseth, Luella Lindseth, & Virginia (Al) Williamson and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in Death: Parents, Husband, Brother Lester, Sisters: baby Carol Jean, Irene Sellin, Verna Sheets, Helen & Elaine. In- law’s: Doyea family, Luther Sheets, Ann Silverthorn, Neil Lindseth & Son-in-law David Kretzschmar.
Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00, Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Grace Chapel (10 mi S. Hwy 92), Bagley, MN. Interment at the Bagley City Cemetery.
