Services for Lorraine Genevieve Engen Sorenson
Lorraine Genevieve Engen Sorenson, 85, of Clearbrook, MN, died on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab in Bagley, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, MN. A visitation will be held the evening before on Sunday, July 22, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, MN. Interment will be prior to the service on Monday at Oak Park Lutheran Cemetery in Weme, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Lorraine was born on August 9, 1932 in rural Clearbrook, Minnesota, the daughter of Walfred and Luella (Kindem) Nordlund. She grew up on a farm in Eddy Township and walked 3 miles and crossed 13 fences to attend the district 55 school. She graduated from Clearbrook High School. Lorraine’s first job was waitressing in Fosston for 50 cents an hour. It was there that she met the love of her life, Norman Engen, and they were united in marriage on November 29, 1952. Together they had two children, Cheryl and Richard. Lorraine worked as a teacher in Mercer ND and later a secretary in the Clearwater County Assessor and Attorney’s offices for 12 years. Many knew Lorraine though from her time at First State Bank of Clearbrook, where she worked 28 ½ years, first as a teller and then as a loan officer.
After losing Norman in 1989, Lorraine married Myron “Mike” Sorenson on October 3, 1992. They enjoyed retirement and each other’s company until his passing in 2010.
Lorraine loved music, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, golf, bowling, and playing bingo. She enjoyed community events, attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center. She loved her friends and family and always expressed how important it was to share yourself with others. Blessed be her memory.
She is survived by her grandchildren, BJ (Linda) Engen, Bryan (Kacey) Engen, Maggi (Derek) Johnson, and Sara Stone; her great grandchildren, Ella, Abby, and Mya Engen, Hayden, and Grant Engen, Meika, and Trey Schmidtgall, Lauren, Leighton, and Anna Johnson, and Reina and Kasen Stone; her siblings, Luverne (Helen) Nordlund, Winnie Anderson, and Pat (Harry) Toussaint; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Engen; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walfred and Luella Nordlund; her husbands, Norman Engen and Myron Sorenson; and her children, Cheryl Stone and Richard “Dick” Engen.
