Services for Lois Tangen
Lois Tangen, age 99, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Essentia First Care Living Center in Fosston. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the memorial service at the church on Saturday morning. Interment of cremains will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to carlinhoialmen.com.
Lois Marilyn Quern was born March 12, 1917 in Gonvick, MN to parents Martin and Julia (Brenna) Quern. She was raised in Gonvick and attended the Gonvick Public School.
Lois married Telford Lucken in 1937 and they moved to Fosston, MN to work and raise a family. Telford passed away unexpectedly on March 21, 1962. Lois married Joe Tangen in June, 1975. They lived in Fosston where she worked as a cook at the Magelssen Elementary School. Joe passed away on July 25, 2000.
Lois enjoyed reading, doing word search puzzles and spending time with her family. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved sharing her donuts, bars, and Norwegian specialties with the family during holiday celebrations. The lefse, fattigmann, rosettes and krumkake were a favorite of everyone. Lois also loved to dance the waltz, polka, butterfly and shoddish. She was witty and had a great sense of humor. Lois was an amazing wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma and will be greatly missed.
On Saturday, August 6, 2016 Lois passed away at Essentia First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 99 years, four months and 25 days.
Survivors include sister Arlys Larson of Bemidji, MN, children Bruce Lucken and significant other Diane Elkin of Fargo, ND, Chuck (Anita) Lucken of Fosston, MN and Candace Harvey and significant other Dave Dahlstrom of Rosemount, MN, son-in-law Steve Tangen, eight grandchildren, Lisa (Dave) Svoboda of Somonauk, IL, Amy (Brad) Hass of Woodbury, MN, Josh Tangen of Woodbury, Jennifer (Andrew) Wiseman of Bloomington, MN, Andrew ( Shannon) Lucken of Lino Lakes, MN, Sarah (Dustin) Manecke of Fargo, ND, Kristi (John) Rusten of Moorhead, MN and Nick Harvey of Minneapolis, MN; ten great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Martin Quern and Julia Quern Larson, brothers Earl Quern, Richard Quern and Rodney Quern, sister Corrine Quern Grosse, and daughters Janice Lucken and Kay Lucken Tangen.
