Lois J. Harwood, 81, of Bagley, MN, died on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN with the Reverend Mark Olson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Lois was born on April 5, 1936 at Clearbrook, MN, the daughter of George and Martha (Lund) Lene. She attended school in a one room school house, and was baptized and confirmed on July 1, 1951 at the Greenwood Lutheran Church. Lois moved to Grafton, ND where she babysat for about 3 years until she moved back to the Bagley area. She met Eugene Harwood while she was babysitting for Mary Lou and Bill Swanberg. They got married on September 18, 1954 at Bagley, MN. Lois and Gene lived in Bagley and in the mid 1960’s, they bought a farm and moved there. In 1970, they bought Amundson’s Oil, renaming it Harwood Oil. Lois was the bookkeeper for the business and they sold it after 20 years of serving the community. After their retirement from the station, they traveled many states. Mostly their destinations were western and southern states. They loved Hawaii so much, they traveled there 3 times. Lois was a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ladies Aide, she was a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the Ruth Circle. Lois enjoyed gardening, sewing, square dancing and old-time dancing. She also volunteered at Greensview Nursing Home for many years.
She is survived by her husband – Eugene Harwood of Bagley, MN
Daughter - Bonnie (Brad) Borene of Clearbrook, MN and their daughter – Kali (Seth) Flower of Benson, MN
Daughter – Susan (Randy) Sims of Gonvick, MN and children Amy Monson of Waseca, MN and Andrew (Emily) Monson of Waseca, MN along with their children – Addison, Felicity and Nolan.
Son-in-law – David Kern and his children – Mary (Stefan) Wick at Stockton, MO and their children, Isabelle, Veronica, Josephine, Samuel, Rosemary, Caroline, Marcellus and Ava Joy.
Beth (Alfred) Bulcher of Athens, WI and their children – Maximus, Zoe, Gus, Olivia and Romulus
Charity Kern of Baxter, MN and her daughter – Cecelia Leuring.
Sisters – Mavis Almen of Grafton, ND, Marlys Bear of California and Janet (Larry) Almen of California
Brothers – Lowell (Doris) Lene of Grafton, ND and Dennis Lene of Fosston, MN
Many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, Her daughter – Marcia Kern on February 5, 2012; and her siblings – Lloyd, Burnette, Alice, Lester and Joyce.
