Lloyd Donald Dunrud was born November 19, 1925 to parents William and Ragna Jacobsen Dunrud at their home in Gully, Minnesota. He was baptized on April 21, 1926. At the age of 2, the family moved to the Dunrud farm located in Brandsvold Township, rural Fosston, with Lloyd’s grandparents, Hans and Mathia Dunrud, a farm they homesteaded. He attended Cloverdale Country School through the eighth grade. At that time he started taking care of the farm, as his father and brother were working out West during the war years. Lloyd milked cows, did the field work, etc. He had both dairy and beef cattle for many years, handling untold numbers of hay and straw bales, and he continued with grain farming.
Lloyd married Judith Axelvold on December 28, 1963 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. They purchased and lived on the farm, where they raised their family—Steven, Stephanie, Joel and Bryan.
Lloyd was an avid sports fan, enjoying all those his family participated in over the years—basketball, football, and baseball, and kept up with the local sports teams. He enjoyed the Twins and the Vikings. Lloyd bowled for many years—in men’s league in Oklee and the Legion team and mixed doubles in Fosston.
Lloyd served on the school board at Sunnyside Country School and was a supervisor for Brandsvold Township for many years. Lloyd was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Fosston, until its closing in 2012, holding offices of treasurer, trustee, and deacon over the years. At that time his membership continued at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. Lloyd had a strong Christian faith. Even with the progression of dementia, he would still talk about, and to, God praying for family, friends, and others with needs.
