Services for Linda Kay Shelquist
Linda Kay Shelquist, 72, of Clearbrook, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019 at her home.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, Minnesota with a visitation one-hour prior at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date at Greenwood Lutheran Cemetery in Clearbrook, Minnesota. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted the family with arrangements.
Linda was born in Bagley, MN on June 13, 1947 to Earl and Evelyn (Bexell) Quern. She was raised in Gonvick, MN and graduated from Gonvick High School with the class of 1965. She went on to further her education at Concordia College in Moorhead and NDSU. While growing up Linda played the clarinet in band and went to Girls State through the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked as a Sunday paper girl and as a car hop at the Rodeo Drive-In, where she met her husband, Larry Shelquist. They were married in 1968. After completing her degree at BSU in 1973, Linda started teaching at Clearbrook High School and continued there for 31 years before retiring. She was the first LD teacher at the school. She was a class advisor, as well as prom advisor from the 70’s to the 90’s. Linda was not only a teacher in the school but was a teacher of life to those around her.
Linda was a proud, devoted and wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She created many wonderful traditions that her family carry on in her memory. Her love lives on through her family.
Linda was a very active community and church member. She was in the choir, taught Sunday School for many years, was on the church council, and was involved in WELCA, even serving as its president for a time. She loved to garden, travel, refinish furniture and she was an avid reader. She was a wonderful cook and baker.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Shelquist; her daughters, Kristi (Darald) Halverson and Kari (Thomas) Christiansen; her grandchildren, Alexa (Adam) Saulsbury, Cedric and Ella Amlo, Theodor and Tara Christiansen; her great grandsons, Christian and Nikolas Saulsbury; her siblings, Gary (Evon) Quern and Julie (Howard) Thorson; her siblings-in-law, Carol Jean Anderson, Jimmy (Bev) Shelquist, and Jocelyn Nehk; several nieces and nephews; and many other loved family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Evelyn Quern; her parents-in-law, Clarence and Hulda Shelquist; and her siblings-in-law, Lorraine Johnson, Clarize Siergersma, and Roger Shelquist.
