Lillian Mae Payne passed away on July 21, 2024 at the age of 94.
She was born on May 23, 1930 to parents Marie and Issac Olson of Bagley, MN. She was the youngest of the Olson children. She was raised from infancy by her great-aunt and uncle Christine and Daniel TeHennepe. She married Robert Payne of Leonard and they had two children, Daniel and Linda. In 1956 the family moved to Silver Bay, MN where they lived for 39 years. They were members of Sychar Lutheran Church.
Lillian was employed by Reserve Mining Co in the Finance Department for 20 years, retiring in 1986. In 1995 she and Bob moved back to Leonard, MN. They renewed their membership at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and lived in Leonard until 2015 when they moved to Bemidji. Lillian’s hobbies were sewing, quilting, crafts, reading, music, writing letters, making lefse and baking cookies. She sewed many quilts for various churches and for all er grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her later years she made “memory bears” for friends who had lost loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter Linda and husband Harlan McCorkell (Springfield, SD), daughter-in-law Patricia Payne (Duluth, MN). Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Cynthia (Lance) Ellis, Cheryl Lagergren (Jay), Chad (Susan) McCorkell, Christine (Sean) Erspamer, 12 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and 1 Godson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob (2017) and her son Daniel (2022). Both TeHennepe and Olson parents, 2 TeHennepe brothers, 7 Olson siblings, one Goddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements by Cease Funeral Home in Bagley, MN. Services will be at 11:00 AM in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leonard MN on Saturday September 14, 2024.
Graveside services and Burial of both Lillian and Robert will be immediately following service at Norway Lake Cemetery in Leonard.
