Lawrence Johnson, 89, of Bagley, Minnesota passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, at his home with his loving wife of 65 years by his side.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at The Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Bagley, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Interment will be held at the Westby Cemetery in the Spring. Military Honors will be accorded with the Irvin Blix American Legion Post #16 of Bagley, Minnesota
Lawrence was born on October 25, 1933, at Clearwater County, Minnesota the son of Louis and Grace (Charles) Johnson. Lawrence attended Bagley Schools and entered the United States Army on July 29, 1954, and was honorably discharged on July 17, 1956. He married Joyce Murray on November 30, 1957, at Fosston, MN. On February 22, 1958, they were blessed when their daughter Cheryl was born into their lives. Lawrence did cement work and was a block layer. He was very hard working and trolled many quonset floors. Lawrence spent many years logging while also dairy farming. Lawrence and Joyce were dairy farmers for 13 years. They sold their farm in 1976 when he retired at the age of 65 and moved into town. Working in his shop was his greatest passion. His shop was like a second home to him and when he was working on a vehicle, he was in seventh heaven. Lawrence worked in his shop until October of 2022.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Johnson of Bagley
Daughter – Cheryl Snook of Bagley.
Granddaughter – Melissa Johnson & John Good of Battle Lake
Granddaughter Holly & Ryan Strickler of Anchorage, Alaska
Granddaughter – Nicole & Ken Davis of Wasilla, Alaska
Grandson – Derrick Goodwin of Rice Lake
Grandson Dennis and Sarah Goodwin of Rice Lake
Great grandchildren Samantha, Haley and Justin Olson; Lindsey and Sam Strickler; Taylor Davis; Jayden, Aschaunte, and Kaiden Goodwin; Teri, Tyra, Daunte, Dennis Jr., Dani Ann, Daynia, Dalyan, Destin, Denessa and Desire Goodwin.
Great great grandchildren Emberly Strom, Braven, Brighten Cloud and Akeenah Goodwin
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers – Arthur, Clarence, and Gordon; 2 sisters – Gladys Shelquist and Lillian Forar.
