Services for Kenneth Bruce Evans

Kenneth Bruce Evans, 66, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2017. Ken grew up in the small town of Clearbrook, Minnesota, fought in the Vietnam War as an enlisted member of the Air Force, obtained his bachelor’s degree from Bemidji State University, and returned to the Air Force as an officer soon after.  After being honorably discharged at the rank of captain, Ken worked as a civilian for the Department of Defense for nearly three decades at Mountain Home Air Force Base, where he served as Chief of P5 Operations until the day he died. He was four months from retirement and likely could have retired earlier, but truly enjoyed the friendship provided by his coworkers.

Ken loved to visit the shooting range with his son and was also a passionate golfer, earning two holes-in-one in his lifetime, as well as being a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan. He was an avid animal lover, often volunteering his time at local animal shelters and helping various animal rescue organizations. Ken was also dedicated to fitness and was a zealous runner while in the Air Force.

Ken brightened the lives of all he encountered, and to those who had the privilege of knowing him, that light has been replaced by a colorless void since his death. He was a truly selfless and compassionate human being, with every action in life performed for the benefit of his only son. To that son, he was more than just a father; he was a best friend, a constant source of encouragement and inspiration in both the brightest and darkest of times, and quite simply the most important person in the world.

Ken is survived by his brother Glenn Evans; his sisters Kathy Hackenberg and Jayne Rowan; his niece Brianna Boniface; his nephews: Jeremy, Jordan, and Joshua Hackenberg, and his son Dylan Evans, who can only hope someday to be a fraction of the man his father was.

A memorial service will be held for Ken at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 16 at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd in Nampa (208-467-7300). In Lieu of flowers, Ken would have wanted any donations sent to Moonsong Malamute Rescue, found at moonsongmals.org
