Services for John Loiland
John Loiland, age 73, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday, July 24th, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29th, at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Alan Arneson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, July 28th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. John Wayne Loiland was born on December 16, 1943 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to parents Ole and Thora Tharldson Loiland. He grew up in Oklee, Minnesota and graduated from Oklee High School in 1961. After high school, he lived in the Minneapolis area and worked at Suburban Chevrolet.
John was united in marriage to Lynda Erickson on June 13, 1966. They moved back to the area in 1968 and John was employed at Lucken’s in Winger until 1974. At that time he established Mac Auto Body in McIntosh, Minnesota which he operated until his retirement in October of 2016. John was diagnosed with cancer that same month.
John enjoyed restoring old cars and riding motorcycle. He also fondly remembered and enjoyed motorcycle trips out West with his family and friends.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lynda, of Fosston; two children, Gary (Kelle) Loiland of Brainerd, MN, and Shannon (Jerry) Miller of Alexandria, MN; two grandchildren, Shayla and Shyanne Loiland; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth “Buddy” and Nels Loiland; and one sister, Kathleen Andreson.
