Services held for Lois Margaret Gjernes

APRIL 4, 1937 – JUNE 29, 2019
Lois Margaret Gjernes “Marge” born April 4th, 1937, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 29th, 2019 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of John for 57 wonderful years. Loving mother of Larry (Polly), Daniel (Carol), Terese (Brenton) and John. Proud grandmother of Ashley, Alyssa, Christian, Teresa, Thomas, John-Paul, Gabriel, Jacob, the late Danny, Joey, Andrew, Teo and Tessa. Dear sister of Rod Guest, the late Gerri Yaeger and the late Suzanne Guest. Marge will be missed by many friends and family.
Marge grew up in Monroe, MI, and attended St. Mary's Academy for high school. She attended Marygrove College in Detroit, graduating in 1959. Her first teaching job was in Madison Heights. Then Marge moved to Germany to teach at the American army school. Here she met the love of her life, John, where they both were teachers at the same school. After John and Marge married, their first 3 children were born in Germany. They returned to the U.S. in 1965 and moved to Livonia, where their fourth child was later born.
Marge was a teacher at St. Michael’s. She transitioned out of teaching and became a successful, award-winning realtor. Marge was a devout Catholic and was very active in her church at St. Aidan’s and in her community. She is known for her spirit, liveliness, generosity and humor. She enjoyed sharing her faith with others and was busy and energetic until these recent months. Marge and John enjoyed traveling, bridge, singing and square dancing. They enjoyed a long and loving 57 year marriage.
Visitation was held at Harry J Will Funeral Home Friday July 5, 2019. A funeral was held on Saturday July 6, 2019 at St. Aidan's Catholic.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to St. Aidan’s church or Fr. Solanus.
