Services held for Jacqueline “Jackie” Saeland
Jacqueline “Jackie” Saeland, age 66, of Twin Valley, MN, died Saturday, March 23, 2019 in her home surrounded by her family after a long illness.
Jacqueline K. Saeland, the daughter of Alvin and Marion (Carrow) Wilke, was born on February 5, 1953 in Breckenridge, MN. She grew up in the Breckenridge community until her father’s death in the mid 1960’s when she moved to Fargo. She attended school in Fargo graduating from Fargo North High School. Jackie was united in marriage to Ernie Saeland in 1972. The couple made their home in Fargo for one year before moving to rural Twin Valley, Minnesota where they made their forever home. Jackie was well known in the community for providing child care for countless families over the years. This was a true passion she had and many of the children she cared for became part of her extended family. Jackie was loved by not only the children she cared for, but also by the parents of those children. Jackie retired from babysitting about eight years ago but remained active with her grandchildren. Her generous spirit and gracious hands will be long remembered by the children she cared for over the years.
Spending time with her grandchildren was something Jackie greatly cherished, and they treasured the time with her. She always made time to play games and spend time in the garden with them. She loved canning foods and making pickles that she shared with family, friends and especially her grandkids. Driving one of her many old “John Deere” tractors in several parades throughout the area with her family was one of her favorite summer pastimes. Jackie had always been active in the church. Over the years, she had taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the ladies’ groups. She was also part of the Boy Scout troop where she served as a leader and the treasurer. She was awarded the Scouter of the Year Award in 1986. Throughout her 18 year battle with cancer and her health, Jackie always remained optimistic with a smile on her face.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Ernie; her daughter, Terri (Vance) Kaupang of Winger, MN; her son, Brian (Catherine) of Moorhead, MN; six grandchildren, Grace, Lauren, Emma, Jackson, Connor, and Cole; her sister, Darlene (Alan) Weixel of Jamestown, ND; and her brother, Paul Wilke of Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley, MN. Visitation was on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a family service beginning at 6:30 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley, MN.
