Hazel Olson, 94 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Oakland Park Communities.
The service to celebrate Hazel’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with Rev. Ale Tulu officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Hazel Mendora Wedger was born August 13, 1925 near Clearbrook, in Clearwater County, MN, the daughter of Henry Peter and Millie Theresa (Steenerson) Wedger. She was baptized as an infant in Clearbrook and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Fosston, MN. She attended Olga School, Gary School, and graduated from Fosston High School in 1943.
On April 19, 1944, Hazel was united in marriage to George Fossum in Fosston, MN. The couple lived near Trail, MN and farmed in Equality Township, Red Lake County, MN. Twenty eight years later, she moved to Thief River Falls, MN. Hazel worked at Arctic Enterprises for 13 years, retiring in 1982.
She married Raymond O. Olson, October 1, 1977 in Thief River Falls, MN and together they made their home on a hobby farm near Viking, MN. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. Raymond passed away on his birthday, September 17, 1992. In 1992, Hazel moved to 205 North Crocker, Thief River Falls, MN.
Hazel worked hard her entire life and was a kind, patient, and caring person. She loved working outside, such as lawn work and flower gardening. She enjoyed playing cards, coffee time, and going for hamburgers with her friends.
Hazel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN and a life member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary, Thief River Falls, MN. She was active in the Viking Town and Country Garden Club and Rosewood Homemakers. In August 2006, Hazel moved to Pioneer Court and in August 2016, moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living.
She is survived by children: Gary (Diane) Fossum, Thief River Falls, MN, Larry (Karen) Fossum, Trail, MN, and Donna (Mike) Drangstveit, Goodridge, MN, Luwana Erickson, Washington State, Jeffery Olson, Wilton, ND, Chris Olson, Akeley, MN, and son-in law Lowell (Kathy) Enerson, River Falls, WI; grandchildren: Kevin (Mardi) Enerson, Joelle (David) Garceau, Jonathan
Sundrud, Lesley (Mike) Harmoning, Chris Fossum, Kelly (Jana) Fossum, Jackie Fossum, Travis (Amy) Olson, Josh Olson, and Katie Olson; many great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Ronning; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Hazel is preceded in death by husbands, George and Raymond; infant son, Gene; daughter, Lavonne Enerson; parents; and brother, Marvin Wedger.
