Services for Hazel Holthusen
Hazel Holthusen, Grygla, MN, 98, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10:30 AM with Reverend Vicki Saude-Worthington Officiating. Burial will be held at Rosebud Cemetery at Thorholt, MN.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 5 – 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Hazel Salveson was born August 29, 1920 daughter of Sivert and Inga (Brevik) Salveson on the family farm by Grygla, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Valley Church and attended Fairview School, formerly known as Dalos School.
On April 7, 1940, Hazel was united in marriage to John “Jack” Holthusen. Hazel worked on the farm.
She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School, also a VFW member and Lioness member for many years. She always enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning for her family. Most of all she enjoyed the time spent with family and friends. She had so many wonderful friends and relatives. She also enjoyed camping and playing cards. She enjoyed the last years at Oak Lodge where she made many friends in Thief River Falls, MN
Hazel is survived by 5 children: Lynette (Glen) Geving, Sun City, AZ, Ronald Holthusen, Grygla, MN, John Holthusen, Thief River Falls, MN, Holly (Robert) Manderud, Goodridge, MN and Kelly (Paulette) Holthusen, Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Jodi (Rob) Burley, Dale Manderud, Dawn Gagnon, Greg (Joyce) Geving, Tammy (Jared) Ellingson, Christy (Tim) Quinn, Keri (Kevin) Sorter, Heather Oistad, Cindy (Todd) Belmont, Daylin Holthusen and Nicole Ellefson; 25 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, granddaughter Carla Manderud, parents, sisters, Stella Erickson, Alice Peterson Polly Haroldson and Lorna Hohle; brothers, Phillip, Selmer and Jim Salveson.
