Harvey was born on the family farm on April 1, 1929 in Pine Lake Township, MN, the son of Oscar and Anna (Offerdahl) Erie. He, along with his siblings, grew up on the farm just South of Gonvick; this became a Century Farm in 2017. Harvey was baptized and confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church. He attended Taflin Country School from grades 1-8 and Gonvick High School graduating in 1947.
Harvey married Marilyn (Halvorson) on June 15, 1956 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bagley, MN. They lived on a dairy farm near Gonvick where they raised their family. Harvey farmed alongside his father on the family farms through the 1980’s and then went on by himself. In 1987 Harvey’s son David moved back to farm with him, where they ran the different farms as dairy and beef operations. While farming was a huge commitment, Harvey never missed a sporting event his boys played; no matter how far away the game was. Harvey worked for the Postal Service in Gonvick for 38 years as a clerk.
He was involved in 4-H and for 44 years he showed cattle at the Clearwater County Fair and the MN State Fair for 27 years. He enjoyed watching the MN Twins and the MN Vikings. He would also listen to the Twins baseball, which he got from his dad Oscar. Harvey loved being on the Century Farm which has Lake Erie and Lake Klongerbo on it. On Erie Lake he would count the swans just like he counted his cow/calf each day. He would take in the eagles flying over and the deer. Harvey cherished the time he spent with his grandkids and family. Harvey was a member of the Samhold Lutheran Church, where he was involved with the Church Council. He was a member of the Gonvick Lions Club and a Fire Warden for Pine Lake Township for 49 years.
