Services for Gudrun C. Fredensberg

Gudrun C. Fredensberg, 99, of Bemidji, MN died Friday, January 8, 2016 at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bemidji , Minnesota.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held in the spring at the Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji.

She was born August 11, 1916 in Gonvick, MN the daughter of Nels and Louise (Husby) Fredensberg.  She was baptized on September 10, 1916, and confirmed on June 29, 1930 at the Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick.  She was educated in the Gonvick Public School, graduating from High School in 1933.  She worked at the Gonvick Post Office for two years, after which she went to Morris, MN, where she completed the Business Training Course at the West Central School of Agriculture, and worked for five years in their business office.  In 1941 she moved to Richmond, California.  She was employed as a bookkeeper for a construction company and for the US Navy before enlisting in the US Coast Guard.  Following her Honorable Discharge, she returned to California where she attended Golden Gate College in San Francisco and also the University of California in Berkeley.  She worked for Cutter Laboratories/Bayer Corporation for 27 years, four of which were spent in their Panama office.  During the two years at U.C. Berkeley and in Panama she was a member of the Naval Reserve.  She moved to Bemidji in 1984 and became an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church.  Her volunteer service included delivering Meals on Wheels, and working at the Bemidji Community Food Shelf.  She loved to travel and visited many foreign countries as well as much of the United States.  She enjoyed reading and sports.  For many years she was an active golfer.

She is survived by her nieces: Karen (Phillip) Johnson of Clearbrook, MN, Kathryn Westrum of Clearbrook, MN, nephews Brent Thompson of Bloomington, MN, Michael (Susan) Thompson of Las Vegas, NV, Paul (Catherine) Thompson of Bemidji, MN, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Edna Thompson, and an infant brother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
