Services for Gordon E Jelle
Gordon E Jelle passed away Aug, 25, 2016 at Karlstad Senior Living Center at the age of 86 years. A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at the Grygla Community Center on Friday, Sept 9 beginning at 2 pm. All family and friends are welcome to attend and share memories.
Gordon E Jelle was born 5/30/1930 in Hamre Township, Beltrami Cnty to Julius and Olga (Overby) Jelle. He was the youngest of 5 boys. He graduated from high school in Grand Rapids, MN from the North Central School of Ag in 1949. Gordon enlisted in the US Navy in 1951, serving on the USS LST 400. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
On Feb20, 1952 he was united in marriage to Donna Stanley in Minneapolis, MN. To this union 4 children were welcomed. Greg (Lynette) Grygla, Scott-Thief River Falls, Kim Larson (Danny) Chugiak, AK, and Tomas (Muff), Mingus, TX.
After his discharge in 1955, the Jelle family returned to Grygla, where Gordon began his lifelong adventure with the Soil Conservation Services, Dept of Ag. He worked in Grygla, Red Lake Falls, and retired from the Thief River Falls office in 1980. Gordon was well known around the entire area for his surveying abilities and commitment to good farming land.
Gordon enjoyed a long and full retirement. Ice Fishing, prairie dog shooting, and lending a helping hand to local farmers when needed, filled his days. He was always on an adventure.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna, 3 sons-Greg (Lynette), Scott, and Tomas(Muff) and 1 daughter, Kim(Danny) Larson. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Kaye Jelle (James), Myrtle Jelle (Deane) Lorrayne Jelle (Belmont), and Delores Salzl (Willard), and Ida Stanley, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-James, Dean, Belmont, and Willard and an infant sister, Ellie.
